On October 27, 2022, the activity of Dragon and Lion Dance, one of the series of traditional cultural activities themed "Home in Chengdu," was successfully launched at Chengdu Sport University. The activity was hosted by National Language Service Export Base and organized by Chengdu Sport University.
Dragon and Lion Dance entails a long history and cultural connotation in China. Through Dragon and Lion Dance performance, this activity aims to let international students interested in traditional Chinese culture deepen their understanding and love of it. Through the performances, students can appreciate traditional Chinese culture.
Over 20 international students from Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Russia, Belarus, and other countries and over ten students from the school of Wushu of Chengdu Sport University participated in the activity. It started with a wonderful dragon and lion dance performance, and the activity was praised by all the Chinese and international students present.
After the stunning performance, international students with interest aroused also began to experience it. Students started to try costumes, lion dance equipment, and apparatus and even to perform some basic movements under the guidance of teachers. From unfamiliar to like, students gradually fully engaged in it with laughter.
There was also a "friendly match" at the end. The Chinese and international students formed two mixed teams and participated in the dragon dance competition under the guidance of their teachers. The slogan of the contestants was changed to "Xiongqi," which signifies fighting in the Sichuan dialect. With the dragon pole in their hands as the bridge, Chinese and international students successfully built a tie of friendship, and the traditional Chinese culture was conveyed to everyone who participated in the activity.
An international student from Bangladesh was happy to share his feelings. It was his first time seeing the traditional dragon and lion dance. He liked it and was also deeply attracted by the dragon and lion dance. He experienced the vitality and cultural charm of traditional Chinese sports.
Another international student from Ghana said that the activity was of great significance to him. He has lived in Chengdu for four years, and his affection for Chengdu is growing. In addition to delicious food and picturesque scenery, he would also like to learn more about Chinese culture so that he will feel more at home in Chengdu.
International students' greatest expectation is to feel at "home in Chengdu," which is more than just a phrase. Their sense of belonging in Chengdu is growing thanks to numerous cultural activities.
