On August 4, the Unveiling Ceremony of the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center was held at Chengdu Sport University (CDSU). This marks the successful establishment of a sustainable international sports culture exchange platform during the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games (Chengdu 2021) to preserve the plentiful achievements and precious heritage of Chengdu 2021, promote sports, learning, and cultural exchanges among university students from all over the world, and advance the vigorous development of international university sports.

Leonz Eder, Acting President of FISU, Eric Saintrond, Secretary General of FISU, Verena Burk, Director of the Education Committee of FISU, Shen Zhen, Vice President of  FISU, Yu Xiaoqi, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Director of the Department of  Education of Sichuan Province, Xian Rongsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and a member of the Leading Party Members' Group of Chengdu Municipal People's Government, Shu Weiping, Secretary of the Party Committee of CDSU, Pan Xiaofei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of CDSU, and other leaders attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, CDSU awarded FISU Acting President Leonz Eder the title of "honorary professor." Mr. Leonz Eder said that "honorary professor" represents not only honor but also responsibility. As the Acting President of FISU, he expressed his sincere gratitude to CDSU for its contributions to Chengdu 2021 and the FISU World Conference and also congratulated its teachers and students on their outstanding performance at Chengdu 2021 on behalf of China. For future work, he said that FISU will provide strong support for the construction of the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center and work closely with CDSU to build a platform for cooperation and exchange and promote better development in university sports, sports education, inheriting the cultural heritage of the FISU World University Games, and other aspects.

Yu Xiaoqi, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Director of the Department of Education of Sichuan Province, expressed his warm congratulation on the establishment of the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center in his speech. He said that establishing the Center in CDSU marks that the precious material and spiritual heritage of Chengdu 2021 will be inherited and carried forward and that FISU's concept of combining "competition, education, and culture" will be spread to a larger area in China.For future work, he said that Sichuan will provide strong support for the construction of the "International University Sports Culture Exchange Center," strive to create a new model of sports education for Chinese universities, and make new and greater contributions to the efforts of boosting the strength of the nation and the province in education and the development of international youth sports!

Xian Rongsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and a member of the Leading Party Members' Group of Chengdu Municipal People's Government, extended heartfelt respects and thanks to FISU, the Federation of University Sports of China, the Department of Education of Sichuan Province and CDSU for their long-term care, support, and assistance during Chengdu's efforts to build a world-famous city of sports events and ensure the successful holding of Chengdu 2021. He said that the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center will certainly play an important role in constantly strengthening cooperation and friendship and taking Chengdu's progress in building a world-famous city of sports events to a new level. Then he added that Chengdu will provide full support for CDSU in the construction of the Center to build a home where university students from all over the world can experience, participate in and enjoy a colorful sports culture and work together with CDSU to create a cultural landmark for Chengdu to become a world-famous city of sports events.

When Shu Weiping, Secretary of the Party Committee of CDSU, delivered a speech, he thanked FISU, the Federation of University Sports of China, the Department of Education of Sichuan Province, the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government for their care and support. He said that CDSU will adhere to cooperation and sharing, openness and inclusiveness as well as truth and innovation, and shoulder the important mission of advancing the development of international university sports and promoting cooperation among worldwide universities in education, sports, culture, arts, teacher and student exchanges and other aspects. Meanwhile, CDSU will implement the agreement in full, give full play to its advantages in disciplines and majors and offer a window for worldwide university students to learn more about China, Sichuan Province, and Chengdu City. By doing so, CDSU strives to enhance mutual understanding and integration through sports across the globe and pool strength to develop a community of development for international university sports all over the world!

It's planned that the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center will be jointly built by FISU and CDSU. It is the first university sports culture exchange center co-built by FISU and a university in a host city during the event in the history of the FISU World University Games, and also the first international university sports culture exchange platform authorized and certified by FISU in China.

As per the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the two parties, the Center will take the sports values of FISU and the sports development concepts for university students as the guidance, promoting the development of international university sports as the overall goal, and advancing international university sports culture exchanges and carrying out sports events and educational activities as the focus. Based on this, the two parties will work together to develop multiple projects such as sports medicine education, international university sports event and cultural exchanges, FISU characteristic education, FISU heritage protection and academic achievement database, and FISU Healthy Campus programme promotion and build the Center into an international, professional, inclusive and high-quality sports culture exchange platform.

After being completed and put into operation, the Center, under the guidance of FISU, will maximize CDSU's advantages in profound humanistic heritage, discipline characteristics, and faculty strength, work to become an integral part of Bashu's rich cultural heritage, show the world the unique university sports culture with Chinese characteristics, and contribute to the prosperity and development of the international university sports culture.
