On the morning of August 22, 2024, Mr. Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and Ms. Zhao Jing, Director of the FISU Summer World University Games, visited Chengdu Sport University. Mr. Shu Weiping, Secretary of the CPC CDSU Committee, Mr. Pan Xiaofei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC CDSU Committee and President of Chengdu Sport University, Mr. Li Lin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC CDSU Committee and CDSU Vice-President met the guests with relevant personnel from the relevant departments of Chengdu Municipal Government, the International Office, and Office of the CPC CDSU Committee and President’s Office of CDSU participated.
To further promote the construction of the "International University Sports Culture Exchange Center" jointly built by FISU and CDSU and the implementation of various cooperation plans, FISU President Mr. Leonz Eder visited CDSU to discuss the project details in person.
Accompanied by university leaders, FISU President Leonz Eder and the delegation toured CDSU’s comprehensive stadium, tennis hall, rhythmic gymnastics hall, ball sports gym and other competition venues of our university. They inspected the hardware facilities and conditions for hosting events. They expressed confidence in entrusting more world university sports events to our university in the future.
Both sides had thorough exchanges regarding the construction of the "International University Sports Culture Exchange Center." They emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen the functions of the "Center" mainly focusing on training and research, concentrating on the professional skills training and cross-cultural communication training for university students, and promoting innovation in sports culture research. Leveraging FISU's extensive global volunteer training experience and the youth volunteer service force of Chengdu Sport University, volunteer training and exchange activities will be held to cultivate local young university student volunteers.
CDSU has obvious advantages in sports medicine. Both sides agreed to continue leveraging CDSU's distinctive medical specialties, actively cooperating with the FISU International Medical Committee, exploring academic exchanges, scientific research achievement transformations, and teacher-student exchanges in the fields of medicine and sports, and jointly promoting the development of international sports medicine.
Under the guidance of FISU, CDSU will strive to complete the first-year certification of the "FISU Healthy Campus" program. Following a successful evaluation, the university plans to apply to FISU to establish the world's first "FISU Healthy Campus Training, Education and Research Base" to expand its influence. This year marks the 75th anniversary of FISU. Both sides also discussed leveraging CDSU's research advantages of the School of History and Culture, Institute of Sports History, and Sports History Museum to collaborate with FISU on historical and cultural documentation.
FISU President Leonz Eder also highly praised our university's school-running conditions, venue construction, and leadership team. He recalled that during the preparation and hosting of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, more than 1,500 teachers and students of Chengdu Sport University provided services throughout the event, contributing the "CDSU power" to the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games.
CDSU Secretary Shu Weiping and President Pan Xiaofei thanked FISU President Leonz Eder for his support in our university's participation in the Chengdu World University Games and the hosting of the Chengdu FISU World Conference. During the preparation and hosting of the Chengdu World University Games, FISU President Leonz Eder visited our university many times, providing guidance for the successful hosting of the Games and Conference, facilitating the establishment of the "International University Sports Culture Exchange Center" at Chengdu Sport University, and enhancing the university's internationalization.
Chengdu Sport University and FISU will continue to deepen their cooperative friendship, fully fulfill their cooperation agreement, carry forward the spirit of the World University Games in the "Post-World University Games Era," further preserve and utilize the "World University Games Legacy," promote innovative transformations of "World University Games Achievements," and establish the "International University Sports Culture Exchange Center" as an important platform for global university sports and culture exchanges, thereby promoting the development of world university sports.
