The Flame Relay for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games (WUG) unfolded at Chengdu Sport University

On 2 July, The Flame Relay for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games made its return to Chengdu. Chengdu Sport University served as the only sports university of General Higher Education where the Flame relayed, the venue for holding the rhythmic gymnastics competition of the Chengdu World University Games, and fully engaged in preparing for the Chengdu FISU World Conference.

As a grand event, the World University Games marks the highest sports competitiveness of university students worldwide. The Chengdu World University Games is the first comprehensive international major event to be held in the western region of China. Carrying the Olympic spirit, the flame ignites the eager expectation of people worldwide for the Chengdu WUG.

At 10:20 a.m. on July 2, the 31st World University Summer Games Torch Relay in Chengdu Station (the first day) kicked off at Chengdu Sport University.

At Chengdu Station (the first day), You Xiong, graduate of the School of Wushu, the champion of the 90kg level of the 15th World Wushu and Sanda Championship, solemnly bore the torch as the No. 32 torch bearer and the first torchbearer of Chengdu Sport University. He runs with the torch amidst the applause and cheers.

The torch "Rong Huo" was relayed by 31 torchbearers in turn along the 1.7-kilometer way, starting from the school gate and passing through such landmarks of the university as Gui Guan Road, Athletic Field, Huai Xian Square, Xing Jian Building, Library, International Exchange Center, Office Building, Ginkgo Road, Football Field, Basketball Court and Comprehensive Gymnasium (Rhythmic Gymnastic Gymnasium) to pass on the spirit of sports.

"Contest" Sculpture, Guiguan Road

Guiguan Road signifies that it is the cradle of cultivating sports talents and entails the expectation of training more world champions. In recent years, Chengdu Sport University has trained 3 Olympic champions and more than 300 national champions and selected ten outstanding athletes for the national team; students have won more than 1,100 gold medals in the Olympic Games, Asian Games, World Championships, and other major competitions at home and abroad on behalf of the country. In 2021, in the Tokyo Olympic Games, CDSU students claimed 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze, and a 4th place.

This is currently the only museum in China that focuses on ancient Chinese sports culture - the Chengdu Sport University Museum.

No. 1 Office Building

In preparing for the 31st Summer World University Games, CDSU has been steadily promoting the work relating to the four main goals of hosting the Chengdu FISU World Conference, running the Rhythmic Gymnastics Venue Center, mobilizing teachers and students to extensively participate in all the activities of the World University Games and CDSU student-athletes striving for winning gold medals. More than 1,000 CDSU teachers and students are fully engaged in the competition organizations, media service, event translation, volunteer service, and other aspects of the WUG.

 No.1 and No.2 Athletic Field

In the World University Games, the students of Chengdu Sport University will compete with athletes from different countries in 11 sports, including Diving, Gymnastics, Shooting, Swimming, Judo, Tennis, Wushu Taolu, Rowing, Wushu Sanda, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Track and Field. Among them, Chengdu Sport University has the most advantageous strength in rhythmic gymnastics. As the earliest established team in domestic colleges and universities and the only team ranked in the top three in the National Games for eight consecutive years in China, Chengdu Sport University has represented China, joining major international competitions many times.

Comprehensive Gymnasium (Rhythmic Gymnastic Gymnasium)

CDSU Rhythmic Gymnastic Gymnasium is one of the few venues for training, warm-up, and competition for the World University Games. From July 29 to 31, the rhythmic gymnastics competition will be held here, where eight gold medals will be claimed. China’s university rhythmic gymnastics team, including the members of Chengdu Sport University, will compete for the gold medals here.

As the 62nd torchbearer of Chengdu Station (the first day), the last torchbearer of Chengdu Sport University, the famous hurdle athlete of China, and the track and field coach of CDSU, Yin Jing, arrived at the closing point of the torch relay, the Star of Tomorrow. In the lively and dynamic cheerleading and lion dance performances, the flame guard solemnly "collected the flame," and the flame relay of Chengdu Sport University Station successfully concluded!

No.32 Torch Bearer You Xiong of Chengdu Station

Graduated from Chengdu Sport University, You Xiong was the runner-up of Wushu Sanda Men's 90kg level in the 13th National Games, the champion of Wushu Sanda 90kg level in the 15th World Wushu Championships, the winner of Men's 90kg level in the 2018 China Wushu Sanda Club Super League, the annual champion of Men's 90kg Grade in the 2019 "China Wushu Sanda World." He was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award" by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and was honored with "Second Class Merit."

No.52 Torch Bearer Dong Yifan of Chengdu Station

She is a sophomore at Chengdu Sport University and a national level 2 skill athlete. She is currently the captain of the etiquette team of CDSU's Student Union and the vice president of CDSU's Youth Volunteer Association.

She won fifth place in the 2020 National Skill Championship and first place in group cheerleading in Rizhao City, Shandong Province. During her school years, she was awarded scholarships four times, the 17th Sichuan Province "Challenge Cup" special prize, excellent club cadres, excellent volunteers, and other honors.

No.61 Torch Bearer Wang Fang of Chengdu Station

After graduating from Chengdu Sport University, She became the teacher of CDSU. She is a national level 1 basketball referee and a mentor of the University Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center in Sichuan Province. She was entitled the honors of Outstanding Instructor of the Chengdu Student Union Organization, one of the "Top Ten Counselors," Outstanding Member of the Communist Party of China, Advanced Individual in Employment Work, and the First Prize of the Third Counselor Competition of CDSU.

No.62 Torch Bearer Yin Jing of Chengdu Station

He is an international level athlete, former short hurdle athlete of China’s National Track and Field Team, provincial professional team, and PLA team, and now senior coach of the track and field team and head coach of the short hurdles team of Affiliated Athletic School of Chengdu Sport University.

He won the gold medal in 110m hurdles in the 25th Belgrade Summer World University Games, the National Athletics Championships, National Athletics Champion Competitions, Indoor Athletics Championships, and 3 consecutive champions in the Asian Athletics Grand Prix Series.

Among 31 Torch Bearers of Flame Relay in Chengdu Sport University Station, there are many CDSU alumni. They work in different fields and are the excellent representative of all walks of life.
